Russia Announces Withdrawal of its Military from Syria.

On the eve of UN brokered peace talks, the Russian Government has made the shock announcement that they will  withdraw the “main part of their military grouping in the Syrian Arab Republic” beginning immediately.

The statement from the Kremlin does not say how many of the Russian Aircraft and troops will be withdrawn from Syria nor how long it would take but it has already started.

FIRST VIDEO: Russian warplanes leaving airbase in Syria

This is a very strange turn of events when it is considered that Russia was sending more warplanes to Syria less than a fortnight ago. South Front reported in early March that Russia had just sent several extra aircraft to the Syrian base and provided an updated inventory of the Russian Airforce in Syria.

What Forces does Russia have in Syria?

The Russian Air force has stationed almost 100 aircraft in Syria, the estimates for the number of Russian troops in Syria range between 5 and 20,000. Whatever the number, Russian forces have not played a significant role in ground battles.

Officially, the Russian military have suffered three deaths during the Syrian operation, two on November 24th last year when Turkey shot down the Russian SU24 aircraft and another soldier died in the rescue effort and a soldier who died earlier this year as the result of a reported ISIS mortar attack.

There were also credible reports that a car bomb attack in Latakia claimed by Ahrar al Sham had killed at least ten Russian soldiers in late February.

Syrian rebels claim car bomb attack that killed Russian soldiers in Latakia – ARA News

The story disappeared but there were people on both sides telling neutral sources it happened.

Motives.

The Russian decision comes as a shock as they are a vital element of the loyalist coalition that is midway through several major operations.

The motives for this decision will become clear over time but it seems that Russia has decided to put its will towards ending the war in Syria.

It is possible that Russia is attempting to send a message to their Syrian Government allies that they must be flexible in their negotiations with the opposition.

In recent days the Syrian Foreign Minister stated that the status of the Syrian President Bashar al Assad was not up for negotiation. It is possible that Russia would like to see Assad and coterie head into exile as a way to end the war.

Future of Bashar al-Assad remains ‘red line’ as Syria peace talks begin

Russia has tended to be at least one step ahead of Western observers in recent years so only when we see what happens next will Russia’s intent become recognisable.

There are three obvious possibilities.

  1. This is a ruse designed to bolster the Geneva talks and Russia’s international image.
  2. The US and Russia have made a secret deal regarding Syria’s future that will end the war.
  3. Russia wants Bashar al Assad to leave Syria and is trying to make Assad understand that he must yield to the demands of the opposition and leave power.

My understanding is that Russia is perfectly happy to see Assad leave as they understand that the demand for his departure is merely an excuse for the destruction of Syria via a continuation of the war, their priority has clearly been the survival of the Syrian state and the Syrian army, under whatever leadership. If the war could be ended by his departure, in an orderly way it is highly likely that Russia would request that Assad leave Syria.

Brief Summary of the Military Situation in Syria.

International Military Review – Syria, Mar. 16, 2016

A Cessation of Hostilities?

Around one hundred small insurgent groupings chose to participate in the partial ceasefire. The cessation did not apply and was never intended to apply towards either ISIS nor the local al Qaeda franchise the al Nusra front. Another large grouping Ahrar al Sham chose not to participate in the cessation due to the fact that the al Nusra front, their close ally, were excluded.

Ahrar al Sham says no cessation of hostilities while Nusra is being attacked : syriancivilwar

Therefore the only insurgent groups of any significance to participate was the Jaish al Islam, largely based in the outer Damascus area and the Southern Front coalition of insurgents fighting in the far less active southern parts of Syria.

On paper it seemed then that the cessation of hostilities would make little difference but the fighting has been sharply reduced in the fortnight since implementation and Russia has been helping to negotiate a series of local amnesties and ceasefires, building on a tactic the Syrian Government has been using for several years and that has seen insurgents allowed to leave many areas including Homs city.

Since the cessation began anti Government demonstrations have resumed in the rebel held areas but they are neither large nor enthusiastic. On the weekend an attempt to hold a pro-democracy rally in Idlib backfired badly when the “democratic’ protesters were attacked by Islamists advocating the implementation of Sharia law. The overwhelming desire of the majority of the people appears to be for the war to end and be able to resume their lives.

The sooner it is over the better, but the problem of al Nusra, ISIS and their sponsors is not suddenly going away, even if the Americans decide to call it a day, there are strong indications that neither Turkey nor Saudi Arabia would follow the advice or direction of the US.

Thousands of Syrian troops and hundreds of thousands of civilians remain encircled by ISIS in the eastern city of Der az Zour and although ISIS are on the path to total collapse in both Syria and Iraq, without Russian air support it is hard to see the Syrian Army liberating Palmyra and defeating ISIS and al Nusra in Syria.

The attempt to end the war is admirable but this will not solve the problem of al Nusra and ISIS each of which retains significant territories within Syria.

It must be assumed that Russian air strikes will continue in Syria for many months at the very least with a scaled down presence conducting a smaller campaign.  Anything less would be a betrayal of all they have achieved up to this point.

World War in Syria.

Recent developments have seen the Syrian war enter a new phase, during which the war has morphed from a proxy war into an open international conflict with the massive increase in Russian and Iranian involvement and the reported deployment of thousands of Iranian military forces to the new Russian backed Syrian Army ground offensive.

A deluge of new videos from the forces aligned with the Syrian Government is a reliable indicator that the three large interconnected military operations in Latakia (far west) , Homs/Hama/Idlib (central)  and Aleppo (north-west) are beginning to achieve their goals.

The north-western offensive is being conducted by a claimed 60,000 troops from Syria, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon,  Afghanistan and Russia. They are throwing everything at this situation in a massive show of will and force.

If the three thousand Iranian Revolutionary Guards are not enough, they will send thousands more, if the 1500 Hezbollah fighters are not enough they will send more. At this point the entire Revolutionary Guard could be wiped out and they would raise and send another. It is a matter of pride and principle.

This has now become a power struggle with implications far beyond the future of Syria.

South Front video still shows the majorarea of the offensive in Latakia, Homs/Hama and Aleppo.
South Front video still shows the major area of the offensive in Latakia, Homs/Hama and Aleppo.

Why is this happening?

It is worth asking why these events are taking place. Why are people killing each other in Syria?

The Causes and reasons for the Syrian war.

A power struggle between different international factions.

What is happening in Syria is a multi-layered power struggle between different factions within the Middle East and the world.

The first faction, the faction who initiated the armed conflict in Syria in order to pursue their geopolitical goals are represented by Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Israel and the United States.

Faction 2 is the traditional Axis of Resistance, Syria, Hezbollah and Iran, plus Iraq and Russia.

The prime motivation for Faction 1 to start a war in Syria was an attempt to counter growing Iranian influence in the region.

The toppling of the Iraqi government by the US and allies in the criminal war that started in 2003 saw the moderate Sunni autocrat replaced with a leadership in Iraq that is Shia and both allied with and heavily supported by Iran.

This shot taken from a videocalled entry into Kvrenbaudh appears to show a Russian advisor and two Iranian IRGC members poring over a map f Latakia. The “Russian” has European features and he is smoking, the Revolutionary Guard are easily recognisable.

Hezbollah and their allies also became the strongest party in Lebanon meaning that Iran had a land bridge of allies between the Afghanistan border and the Mediterranean sea to the West.

The removal of Iranian influence and the destruction of the Government of Iran was a long-term but extremely difficult goal, (one that was ultimately unattainable it seems), so they turned to Syria as the weakest link in the group of Iranian allies in the region.

When protests began in Syria,  they were announced  and organised  outside Syria,

Dissidents Call for ‘Day of Rage’ in Syria

“Syrian security officers were deployed outside parliament Friday to guard against possible anti-government demonstrations, but by early afternoon, no protesters had gathered.

Campaigns on Facebook had called for a day of “anger” in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Friday and Saturday.

One page, titled “The Syrian Revolution 2011,” has drawn nearly 15,000 virtual fans. The group, which according to news reports was set up by Syrians living abroad.”

At the same time snipers were inserted into Syria in order to target and provoke both sides and foment armed conflict, a classic and well-worn CIA tactic later used successfully in Ukraine.

Later thousands of armed men were inserted into Syria along with a massive amount of weaponry.

This is why there is a war in Syria. When the protests in Bahrain were suppressed and the Saudi military entered Bahrain to assist in their suppression, the West supported these efforts as there is an US Naval base in Bahrain and it is an ally.

In Syria insurgents and arms were funneled in to the country and this is the cause for the catastrophe in Syria.

The Syrian Government has many shortcomings and faults. Discontent in Syria was real, but without the outside assistance it is likely the Syrian protesters would have suffered the same fate of the Bahrain’s and been quietly suppressed and then forgotten.

Horiific wounds. Syrian insurgent has had his clothes burned and blown off.
Horrific wounds. Syrian insurgent has had his clothes burned and blown off.

Monumental Hubris and Callous Indifference.

When the conflict was still at a low-level with only 7,000 deaths, a representative of the Second faction, Russia sought to reach a political deal with the West to end the war.

This entreaty, in February 2012 was simply ignored by the West, who believed that success would be achieved on the battlefield so there was no need to make a compromise to end the war.

Instead the supplies of arms and fighters increased massively.

The war party began to maneuver the US towards attacking Syria.

In August 2012 the US President declared an utterly nonsensical “red line” that the US would attack Syria if they used chemical weapons .

Obama issues Syria a ‘red line’ warning on chemical weapons – The Washington Post

The declaration was nonsensical because the Syrian Government made it clear many times that they would never use their chemical stockpile other than in response to an open invasion.

The jihadist proxies of Faction 1 began to conduct false flag massacres and chemical attacks.

In Khan al Assal they killed dozens in March 19th 2013 in a Sarin gas attack attempting to initiate the new war of conquest on the 10th anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq war..

The Western media tried to blame the Syrian Government. The Syrian Government invited the UN to investigate.

The UN investigation eventually concluded that the insurgents conducted the Khan al Assal Sarin massacre and a number of other chemical attacks..

“The United Nations Mission collected credible information that corroborates the allegations that chemical weapons were used in Khan Al Asal on 19 March 2013 against soldiers and civilians,” according to the final report “

UN/OPCW Final Report on the use of Chemical Weapons in Syria.

UN says Syrian “rebels” used chemical weapons

The Western media simply ignored the report entirely.

When the UN investigators were about to arrive in Syria, the al Nusra front reentered Khan al Assal and murdered hundreds of the local civilians. In an attempt to destroy the witnesses to their sarin attack.

Within days of the UN arrival in Damascus, another, much larger false flag operation was conducted in the East Ghouta neighborhood of Damascus. Hundreds died, the US claimed thousands and came close to attacking Syria, within days before a representative of Faction 2, Russia came up with a face-saving solution where the innocent Syrian Government would rid themselves of chemical weapons implying responsibility.

In exchange the US did not attack Syria.

Following the failure of that plot. The insurgents lost heart and turned on one another, the next eighteen months saw a stalemate develop.

The US entered the Syrian war in September 2014, one year after intended and on the opposite side as intended..

The synthetic terror group ISIL/Daesh were the new pretext. The US largely left the local al Qaeda franchise alone , refused to cooperate with the Syrian state and achieved nothing.

Eventually the insurgents and their supporters regrouped, the dream of the US attacking the Syrian state remained under the guise of a no fly zone to be imposed on Northern Syria.

In fact the cretinous hell bound drones of the Western media were still attempting to push the chemical weapons lies right up until May 2015 when a creature named Peter Baker published this amusing little piece of trash in the New York Times

Renewed Insurgency.

Support for the insurgents ebbed and flowed throughout the war depending on external circumstances. The interim Nuclear deal with Iran in April 2015 may have lent increased urgency to the effort. The complete victory of the insurgents in the crucial Idlib province saw the Syrian government heartland areas come under direct pressure. The SAA largely held their own in the South, Hezbollah were achieving grinding victory in the South West but the insurgents had greater momentum and the Syrian government seemed to lack the forces required to fight a complex multi front war.

The fall of Palmyra in central Syria saw the ISIL group extend their presence and control to the very centre of Syria, where they proceeded to vandalise and desecrate the Syrian and human cultural heritage like the Neo-Bolshevik ,mercenaries of Zion that they are.

Meanwhile, Russia, along with France and Germany, had managed to engineer a deal to end the Donbass war. The Ukraine side never honored the deal continuing to shell the Eastern areas but the Novorussian side remained firm in their ceasefire. The war was over and that was that.

At some point after the Minsk 2 agreement was reached, Russia decided to intervene in Syria to protect the naval base and other interests. Iran also agreed to send thousands of men and equipment to Syria.

The plot against Syria faced defeat.

The Russian Air Force embarked on a wide-ranging and devastating campaign against any and all insurgent groups in Syria.

Faction 1 increased their weapons supplies to the insurgents and complained loudly but they forgot that it is quite simply none of their business who comprises the Syrian Government.

The days of hegemony are over and now these people, like Ashton Carter and UK Defense Minister Phillip Hammond are revealed as unclothed emperors living in a state of acute delusion.

The reason for supporting Faction 2,  and  the escalation of the war with all of the suffering it will doubtless entail is that the war being fought by Russia, Syria, Iran and Hezbollah in Syria is the war to end the Empire’s wars of conquest forever.

He stressed that unlike the US-led coalition of countries that bombs militant troops in Syria, Russia was invited to do so by the legal authorities of Syria and thus follows international law.

“The military goal of the operation is strictly to provide air support for the [Syrian] government forces in their fight against Islamic State,” he said.

The Difference.

The year-long campaign of air strikes in Syria conducted by western powers have been highly ineffective.

There appear to be two reasons for this. One reason is that the efforts have been half-hearted and intermittent, with frequent apparent stand downs taking place.

The only parts of the US led campaign that have succeeded have been those in support of Kurdish YPG fighters in Northern Syria.

The Russian Air Force strikes are likely to be more effective because they are going to act in support of the ground forces of the Syrian Army. The unwillingness to offer direct support to Syrian Government ground forces meant that the Western campaign could only ever be ineffective and half-hearted and this may be the key difference that sees the Russian air strikes make a decisive difference on the Syrian battlefield.

The Northern Syrian No Fly Zone Project is Dead.

The most obvious and tangible result of what is now an undeniable Russian military operation in excess of the previous support for Syria and one obvious tangible result of this is that the Turkish plan to defacto seize a swathe of Syrian territory under the guise of imposing a “safe zone” is dead.

Turkey and U.S. Plan to Create Syria ‘Safe Zone’ Free of ISIS – The New York Times

The long envisaged plot to impose a No-Fly zone on Northern Syria, actually announced by Turkey in late July as part of the deal to allow the US to use the Incirlik Air Base for operations against the IS.but never fully embraced by the US is now gone.

This was how the Guardian reported the deal in late July

“Erdoğan did not simply roll over. He had his own tally of requirements when Obama called. Top of his list is the establishment of a designated buffer zone inside Syria – effectively a de facto no-fly zone protected by coalition and Turkish forces – which would provide a safe haven for refugees and deny crucial territory to the Syrian Kurds. Turkish reports suggest the US has quietly agreed to this, although no official announcement has been made.”

The fool Erdogan is never going to get his stealth annexation Northern safe zone.Instead he is stuck with a new Civil war against the PKK in South Eastern Turkey that has seen hundreds of Iraqi and Turkish Kurds slain in air strikes and hundreds of Turkish security forces slain along with dozens of civilians in retaliatory guerrilla attacks.

Report marks high death toll in Turkey’s struggle with PKK terrorism

The Turkish bombings have killed civilians according to Amnesty International.

“Evidence collected by Amnesty International in a fact-finding mission indicates that multiple Turkish government airstrikes killed eight residents and injured at least eight others – including a child – in a flagrantly unlawful attack on the village of Zergele, in the Kandil Mountains in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The airstrikes on 1 August were part of a military campaign launched by Turkey against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) but according to information gathered by Amnesty International these residents were not affiliated with the PKK. The organization is calling on the Turkish government to launch an independent, impartial and effective investigation into the airstrikes and to publicly release the findings of their investigation.

Plots that have been years in the making and involved literally millions of lies and multiple false flag terror attacks

have now come to nothing.

Russian Military Operations in Syria Confirmed.

Reports have now emerged of limited military operations being conducted by the Russian forces freshly stationed in Syria.

The article that mentions the operations comes from Agence France Presse via the Beirut Daily Star.

The operations that are described are air attacks in response to shellfire directed against Russian positions in Latakia.

“All of the ultra-sophisticated equipment is operated by the Russians, like flying the drones. They’re the ones who train the Syrian pilots, and they’re in command,” says a Syrian military expert on condition of anonymity.
When rockets crashed into the airport this week, Russian forces detected the firing location and jets flew off towards rebel-held territory to “neutralize the threat“, the expert adds.

The immense psychological impact of what Russia has done cannot be overstated. The mere presence of increased Russian forces and activity in Latakia has changed the way the world views the Syrian war and the mantra we have heard from years from the Neoconservatives in the West about Assad having to leave in order for the war to end is now officially dead.

The uni-polar era is conclusively over.

The quotes from Syrian residents regarding the Russian military presence are very revealing.

“Every morning, between 6 and 7, I see several Russian planes flying, and I really feel better,” says Ahmad, who lives near Bassel Assad International Airport in Hmeimim, 25 kilometers (15 miles) south of Latakia city.
The airport, along with Russia’s naval facility in nearby Tartus, have seen a major build-up in recent weeks.
“They were our friends, and now they have become our brothers — much more than many Arabs,” says Rima, a 25-year-old student.”

“I’m secular and I belong to a religious minority. For me, it’s the best thing that can happen because the Russians will keep the extremists from advancing,” says 40-year old engineer Fadi at a cafe in the Sheikh Daher commercial district.
“There is nothing more marvelous in the morning than drinking my coffee and smoking my narghileh (water pipe) on the balcony while listening to the melody of Russian planes,” says Nafaa, a 46-year old businessman in Sharashir, three kilometers (two miles) from the airport.

It is absolutely stunning to read these quotes and realise they are coming from a  WESTERN NEWS OUTLET. After four years of the most evil lies imaginable, the truth is quite a shock.

A senior official in Syria described Russia’s military involvement as a “turning point” for the war.
“Russia intends to show that there is no solution without Assad and his army must be part of the fight against ISIS,” he said.
“Moscow wants to remind the United States that its relationship with Damascus dates back more than 50 years,” he said. “It’s also a message to regional countries that Russia intends to become a central player again.”

The Munich Speech of 2007.

At a security conference in Munich in 2007, the Russian President explained what Russia was going to do and why they were going to do it.

In front of an audience that included Angela Merkel, John McCain, US Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Senator Joseph Lieberman, Tzipi Livni and Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, it is amusing to watch their faces as they are informed very politely that they are hubristic deluded fools whose days of arson are coming to an end.

Putin patiently explains that the period of total US domination of international politics had been a catastrophe and his intent to end it and replace it with a system of co-operation in the context of non-interference in other states.

The Russian Military are operating Tanks in Syria.

A Video has emerged that appears to show Russian soldiers in Latakia, Western Syria, operating and firing an ancient T 55 tank.In the video a round is fired towards a surrounding hill. It is probably simply a test but there are Russian troops in Syria preparing for some kind of combat.

Twin track.

At the same time we have seen a major escalation in Russian media involvement in the Syria issue. A group of Russian state media journalists were dispatched to Damascus to interview Syrian President Assad.

‘West crying for refugees with one eye, aiming gun with the other’ – Assad (FULL INTERVIEW) — RT News

Towards the end of the interview Assad is asked whether he would be willing to leave for the good of the country.

Question 14– “If you don’t mind, I would like to go back to the question about Syria’s political future. Mr. President, your opponents, whether fighting against the authorities with weapons or your political opponents, still insist that one of the most-important conditions for peace is your departure from political life and as president. What do you think about that – as president and as a Syrian citizen? Are you theoretically prepared for that if you feel it’s necessary?” (Assad deflected the question.)

The interview is very interesting and Assad is extremely impressive in his quiet way but my understanding is that Russia intends to persuade Bashar al Assad and his family to leave Syria in the near future.

This assessment is based upon the questions the Russian journalists asked Assad in Damascus, added to the fact that a Russian Emercom Ilyushin Il-76 was seen to evacuate Syrian citizens from Latakia in mid August and the Guardian revelations from Maarti Ahtisaari that include the fact that Russia thought the best way to end the war would include easing Assad from power into exile and it seems quite clear that Russia is looking at persuading Assad to leave, presumably for Belarus.

In addition RT has sent journalists to the hot war zones of Zabadani and Hasakeh in North and West Syria, something they have not done for several years. The military campaign has been oblique but the renewed information campaign has been very obvious.

Russian operated tank fires into the Latakia hills.
Russian operated tank fires into the Latakia hills. The image is slightly deceptive it is the Tank in front pointed sideways that is firing.

Something big and astonishing is happening here.

Russia is quite clearly moving to manage the end of the Syrian war and the survival and retrieval of the Syrian state and position itself as the new “honest broker” and Security Guarantor in the Middle East if possible.

It is hard to imagine them doing a worse job than the United States.

Russia is also sending a very clear and powerful message to the Syrian opposition.

“You have been hoping for years that the US would bomb you to victory-forget about it” That dream is dead, military victory is now impossible for you so it is time to come to a political solution for the good of the people of Syria.

The Russian Military are in Syria.

At the start of August a story emerged of the Russian President delivering a furious message to the Turkish President Erdogan via the Turkish ambassador to Russia. Ümit Yardim.

Russian president to Turkish ambassador: “tell your dictator President he can go to hell along with his ISIS terrorists, I will make Syria a ‘Big Stalingrad’ for him!” – AWD News

The story was impossible to verify but the reported high point of the conversation was the Russian President promising to provide Turkey with “a big Stalingrad”* in Northern Syria.
“..then tell your dictator president he can go to hell along with his ISIL terrorist and I shall make Syria to nothing but a ‘Big Stalingrad’, for Erdoğan and his Saudi allies”
The story was colourful and got a lot of attention, it was amusing enough but I thought Well how would he do that, given that no Russian forces are involved in combat in Syria?.

The Tartus Video.

A month later video has emerged of Russian infantry apparently preparing for combat at the Russian Naval base in Tartus, Syria. This video supports the story that Russia has decided to increase its military support to the Syrian Government in their military operations against foreign backed jihadist fighters.

The video is clearly shot in a Port and there is Arabic writing on the buildings where the troops are training. Russia has only one Naval base in an area with Arabic speakers so although this video could have been shot anywhere in theory, it is pretty obvious that they are in Tartus and they are Russians and they seem to be preparing for close quarters small arms based combat.

A Story that was lost in Hype.

Thierry Meyssan broke this story several weeks ago on August 24thbut his story was lost in a great tide of hype and embellishment that followed.

The Russian army is beginning to engage in Syria

This was followed by a tidal wave of hyped stories based on tendentious and phony evidence.

There were pointless photographs of supposedly Russian aircraft flying sorties over Syria.
There is no evidence that any of the photographs of aircraft were authentic or that Russian pilots are flying sorties over Syria.
The claim that there were Russian troops in Latakia dd not appear to be supported by any real evidence, either unless you count the presence of Russian military vehicles as evidence which is ridiculous.
As far as Zabadani goes, another place it was claimed Russians were fighting, I have watched hours of combat footage from Zabadani and it is very clear that Hezbollah are doing the fighting with some support from the Syrian Army.
The rest of the story revolved largely around military equipment, a fairly fruitless path to take as essentially all of the hardware the Syrian Army use is Russian and has been for decades.

Oryx Blog: From Russia with Love, Syria’s BTR-82A

It is no secret that Russia has continued to supply weapons to Syria, although Russia pretends that it is only delivering defensive weaponry, this is laughable.
Russia’s role in support of the Syrian Government deserves praise as this support has enabled the Syrian state to survive the NATO/Israel/Saudi sponsored barrage of barbarous jihadists.

A look at the reality of Libya, the failed state NATO created in North Africa four years ago shows that Russia has done the world and human civilisation a favor by supporting the Syrian Government and the idea that the US with its hundreds of TOW missiles in the hands of terror groups has the right to offer one word of criticism is an abomination given the chaos and suffering Western policy in the Middle East has caused over the past decade.

The Port is more visible in this shot.
The Port is more visible in this shot.

The Consequences.
The hype around the apparent increased Russian military presence in Syria has been dismaying.
While the US and their allies have clearly hoping they could somehow parlay the anti- IS operation into regime change in Syria as matters stand the US has been bombing Syria for 50 weeks and they have never targeted the Syrian Army or their allies.
The US has never come out and admitted it but they have been 100% fighting on the side of the Syrian Government in the Syrian Civil war. All of the US airstrikes have targeted either the al Nusra front or the IS group, the key enemies of the Syrian Government.
Therefore if Russian troops are actually going to be fighting in Syria, they are not going to be starting World War 3, as many have claimed; for the obvious reason that Russia will be joining the Syrian war on the same side as the US.

The stationing of Russian troops in Syria does not mean that they will be involved in combat. This is likely a political move aimed at outflanking the West and guaranteeing that the Syrian state will not be destroyed and that the Tartus Naval base remains.
It is highly unlikely that the Russian forces in Syria will be engaged in heavy fighting, but it is overwhelmingly likely that their presence will see an increase in weapons transfers and all types of support to Syria.

This is Russia gently edging the US aside and claiming they can do a better job against the IS group.
This is not Russia confronting the US in the slightest, this is Russia holding the US to their (insincere) word.

Russian intentions.

Russia appears to see the preservation of the Syrian state as a key goal rather than the Assad leadership. It is possible that Assad and his inner circle have agreed to leave or are planning to leave.
The Russian president Vladimir Putin recently stated that Assad was “open” to snap elections and/or a power sharing agreement.

Ending the War.

The Minsk 2 formula could easily be used as a framework for ending the Syrian war. The fact tat the Ukraine government has not stopped shelling the civilians of the Donbass region does not discredit the Minsk formula.

The first step must be for all sides to agree to end offensive operations.. The territorial position must be made static.
Once the sprawling war can be contained, the IS group will have to be evicted.
If the IS group was the only group still fighting in Syria, they would cease to exist as a viable fighting force within weeks.

Once the IS group is evicted, the Syrian state must restore and secure the borders and a comprehensive political solution must be achieved.

The areas under rebel control should be offered similar provisions to those offered Donetsk and Luhansk in the Minsk accords, a deal for local autonomy and fresh elections.
There are many problems with this idea, including the fact that it would leave large areas of Syria under the control of al Nusra front, the al Qaeda Syria affiliate but the only other choice is endless war.

The Refugee Crisis.

The refugee psyop was the latest installment in the disastrous Arab spring concocted by Western intelligence agencies.

Still the posed dead Syrian child on the beach worked a treat with the less critically inclined people of the world who lapped it up gratefully as they do everything they are told.

The idea that the refugees are fleeing Assad is laughable, a fact illustrated by the fact that millions of internally displaced Syrians have moved into safe Government held areas. The population of Latakia province has for example more than doubled over the course of the war from 1.3 to 3 million.

Syria: Thousands attend pro-Assad rally in Latakia

Of course many of the refugees fled from the bombardment of Syrian Military jets, just as many more fled the rampaging jihadists but Syrians have fled by the million into the Syrian Government held areas.

The opposite has happened in rebel held areas, the IS capital in Syria Raqqa has seen it’s population halved since the maniacal Neo-Bolshevik militants seized the town, from 200 to fewer than 100 thousand.

The refugees deserve assistance and respect but the idea that you reward the people who are willing and able to bribe their way from the dismal refugee camps while those who cannot are left to rot is an absolute joke.

The refugee psyop is also being used to tear down the last strands of independence and sovereignty in Europe.

The Syrian war has been an immense disaster and the only real solution to the refugee crisis is to end the war.

The solution to the crisis is to end the war in Syria. The millions of people in the refugee camps of Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan are never all going to be able to live in the West. The idea that upping refugee intakes slightly solves the problem is absolute rubbish.

The posturing of leaders such as David Cameron, who almost never mentions Libya these days is utterly nauseating.

Isis and Assad must both be defeated by ‘hard military force’ – David Cameron signals UK is close to bombing Syria – UK Politics – UK – The Independent

“President Assad and Isis must both be defeated by “hard military force,” David Cameron has said in his strongest signal yet that Britain will soon bomb Syria.”
“We can do all we can as the moral, humanitarian nation at taking people and spending money on aid and helping in refugee camps,” Mr Cameron told MPs at Prime Minister’s Questions.
“But we have to be part of the international alliance that says we need an approach in Syria which will mean we have a government that can look after its people.
“Assad has to go, Isil has to go and some of that will require not just spending money, not just aid, not just diplomacy, but it will on occasion require hard military force.”

The very idea that these bloodthirsty vultures of the West think they can pose as the guardians of human rights even as the bleeding continues from the last campaign of “humanitarian bombing” in Libya is almost beyond belief .

Cameron and the rest of the “Bankers little helpers” are an unambiguous force for evil in the world and appear to be proud of their role.

The forces of darkness and evil are clearly desperate and it can only be hoped that Cameron and the rest of the War party are never allowed to destroy another nation with their sickening lies and pitiful sophistry and that these snakes return as soon as possible to the abyss from which they emanate.

Russia sends military experts, equipment to Syria

*The Battle for Stalingrad is widely perceived as the turning point in the European segment of the Second World War. After more than a years fighting in the city a German Army of hundreds of thousands surrendered to the Soviet forces after being cut off from supplies and running out of food and ammunition. People still like to tell the story of Napoleon’s Army in Russia being forced to eat their dead horses in the winter snow lest they starve.
In Stalingrad the situation was so desperate that the German soldiers were eating their dead comrades after they starved or froze to death.

Top 10 Facts About the Battle of Stalingrad – Listverse

Slowly starving to death, they resorted to slaughtering the 10,000 horses they had brought to the battle as a source of food. The Germans also had another problem to contend with, the cold, ill equipped for winter warfare as Hitler had arrogantly thought the battle would be over by the winter, the Germans now had to face temperatures of minus 30 degrees celsius (for comparison the temperature in your freezer is about minus 18 to 19 degrees celsius). Too weak to attempt the breakout that Hitler ordered too late, those who hadn’t been killed or starved, simply froze to death.

Therefore if Putin promised Erdogan “a new Stalingrad in Northern Syria as was reported he presumably meant more than simply sending Syria more and better weapons.
